Apart we're Alvin and Wendy. Together we're root beer… get it? A&W? Give it a second… Anyway, if that hasn't already made you desperately search for another food blog, then hello and welcome!

Let's start with me. You can call me Alvin (cue chipmunk jokes). I'm a Florida ex-pat squatting in Brooklyn's "gold coast," Bay Ridge. It's a little slice of small town on a big city plate with wonderfully eclectic taste and authenticity that you just don't see in today's "hipsterfied" New York. It's where coffee still costs a dollar, restaurants are older than the clientele, places don't care if they look good enough for Instagram, and chefs cook from the heart and not the wallet. Philosophies that parallel my own. I've been cooking since I was 14 years old and it's always on my mind. I started taking photos of my cooking when I was in college under bewildered eyes of my friends who just didn't get why I was doing so. I kept it to myself as I studied along to become a doctor when things got complicated. I DIDN'T WANT TO BE A DOCTOR! I loved cooking! I always have and I always will. Thus, I had no other option but to do something about it. This blog was one of those somethings.

This would be Wendy. She's what you'd call an "all-in-one". She's the eye behind the lens and the brains behind the design. She's also the fuel that powers the La Vie En Toast engine; cracking the whip to keep me regular with blog posts and social media posts. Don't let the cute exterior fool ya folks, there's a generous amount of cayenne mixed into the sweet filling.
